Kapena, considered to be one of Hawaii’s premier island bands has 20 Hawaiian Music CD’s to their credit. Although the band has been through some changes, its founding member, Kelly Boy De Lima is still the band leader. Kapena continues to be an institution that embraces what islanders fell in love with when they first heard their unique sound of their “feel good music”. In 1998, Kelly introduced his fans to the next musical generation, his three children. Kapena, Kalena, and Lilo who sing, dance, and play multiple instruments. They have played on the Kapena stage in Hawaii and have toured with the band to the Mainland, Japan, and Pacific Islands

Who’s been cruising at Surfer, The Bar?

Internationally featured Oxbow athlete and model, world champion longboarder and accomplished waterman from Makaha, on Oahu’s west shore, Duane’s greatest contribution to Hawaii’s ocean culture comes through his Na Kama Kai organization. Na Kama Kai empowers Hawaii’s youth by creating, conducting and supporting ocean-based  programs, specifically targeting ocean awareness & safety in order to increase the capacity of youth in the community through cultural & environmental education.

Talk Story with World Champion Kanesa Duncan-Seraphin. One of the most accomplished and interesting water women in Hawaii’s history, Kanesa is best known as a world paddleboard champion, having won the prestigious 32-mile Molokai to Oahu race a stunning 8 times.

Surf Historian John Clark dropped in to Surfer, The Bar and talked story with Jodi Wilmott about his book “Hawaiian Surfing: Learning from the Past.” It took John five years going through Native Hawaiian archives to write the book. Hear the history of surfing narrated by Native Hawaiians. Learn about all the ways Hawaiians played in the ocean through history, including skimming with a pillow case!

Timmy Curran is known for making waves in the surf industry with his big aired trademarked maneuvers, now he’s making sound waves and sharing his soul with his guitar. Here’s a taste of his live performance.

We like to call Brian Keaulana the “Hawaiian Superman.” When winter storms bring some of the most powerful and deadly waves to the North Shore of Oahu, Keaulana is one of the few who knows how to handle mother nature’s monster surf.  His uncanny ability to rescue surfers from dangerous situations makes him an asset to big wave competitions around the world.  Did we mention he is a Hollywood stuntman who also trains the stars?
